SW Times Art 2020 | February 14 – April 27 Bunbury Regional Art Gallery’s biennial South West Survey exhibition, South Western Times Art 2020, features artworks by 68 of the region’s artists. This year’s exhibition, curated by Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery’s Lee Kinsella and judged by Professor Ted Snell, runs until April 27. Learn more Collie Art Prize | February 29 – April 5 The Collie Art Prize is an exhibition of diverse works, a collection made up of diverse works from all across Australia. Each piece, which explores the theme of identity, is in the running to win the $50,000 Collie Art Prize, one of Australia’s richest regional art prizes. The prize attracts amazing entries from artists with diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Works of finalists will be on display at the Collie Art Gallery from March 1 – April 5. Learn more Bunbury Chinese New Year Festival | March 7 It’s the Year of the Rat and the City of Bunbury are celebrating by painting the city red. One of Bunbury’s biggest street festivals, Bunbury Chinese New Year, will be taking over the streets of Bunbury with Chinese performances, dragon dancing, food and more. Head along to Victoria Street to enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of Bunbury Chinese New Year and experience Chinese culture with your hands, eyes and heart. Learn more Stormie Mills – Whose Name Was Writ In Water | March 6 – May 10 Leading Perth street and visual artist Stormie Mills presents Whose Name Was Writ in Water. Ever conscious of his own youth spent making works in and on the streets, Stormie was inspired to create an exhibition that explores the mythology of youth. In the past five years, Stormie’s shows have sold out in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne. His whimsical works are also represented in galleries around Australia, while Stormie’s private and public commissions light up streetscapes from Perth and Scotland, to downtown Richmond USA. Learn more Moscow Ballet La Classique – Sleeping Beauty | March 8 Moscow Ballet La Classique return to BREC with the ballet’s most loved fairytale. Founded in 1990, La Classique combines ballet mastery, lavish costumes and magnificent stage sets to bring exceptional ballets to the stage. In 2020, La Classique will take us on a mystical journey to the fairytale world of Princess Aurora, the Sleeping Beauty. Composed by Tchaikovsky in 1889, Sleeping Beauty focuses on the conflicting forces of good and evil against the backdrop of one of the world’s most famous scores. La Classique’s two-act performance will be a fantastic evening for the whole family. Learn more John Creasy – Messy Bitch @ BREC | April 24 Joel Creasey, Australia’s Crown Prince of Comedy, hits Bunbury for his first WA performance of his latest stand up show Messy Bitch. You’ll know Joel from his red carpet hosting duties or his numerous television appearances: Eurovision, Mardi Gras, Take Me Out or Show Me the Movie. However, live on stage is where you get to meet the real Joel – the unfiltered and unscripted Joel, who’ll regale you with tales from his life in and out of the spotlight. It will get messy ‘cos, like us all, he really is a Messy Bitch.
