Visit Bunbury Geographe is on a mission to find the best things about BunGeo, and we’ve enlisted some friends to help! Today we chat to South West photographer Taj Kempe about his favourite places to shoot and hang out in the region. Hey there, my name is Taj and I’m a 23-year-old, Perth-born, Bunbury-raised photographer. I started taking photos during my first year out of highschool. My drive to pursue music as my main hobby gradually fell to the side when I purchased my first camera. I was instantly in love with the art of photography and the lifestyle of an aspiring adventure photographer. I was thrown a couple of photography jobs at miscellaneous events and concerts during my first year, and after a load of practise and a bunch of YouTube tutorials later, I was able to developed a unique style. I now run a ‘side hustle’ photography business while working my full-time job as an Architectural Draftsman. I spend most weekends shooting weddings/events and road tripping the west coast with mates. My favourite places in Bunbury Geographe Here are my favourite places and spaces in Bunbury Geographe: Back Beach, Bunbury Back Beach is the perfect afterwork hangout spot. It’s close to home and offers some prime parking for van sessions. Here, a couple of mates and I caught the tail end of the sunset and talked late into the night. Big Rock, Wellington National Park Big Rock in the Wellington National Park is low key the coolest climb in the region. Unfortunately for my mates James and Shakira, I forgot to warn them about the difficulty of the hike. Despite lack of preparedness an inadequate footwear, we made it up and down before dark. What we’ve learned: come prepared. Leschenault Estuary, Australind Here’s one of my all-time favourite shots. It was taken on a crisp evening shoot on the estuary with Micky, after a sunset penny board session down Cathedral Ave. Tip: Always watch for crabs ’round these parts… Harvey Dam Harvey Dam has endless opportunities for photos, swimming, killer sunsets and good times. This is probably coolest cloud I’ve ever photographed. Golden Valley Tree Park One of the best things about the Golden Valley Tree Park is how underrated it is. It’s always quiet despite its epic short walks and changing seasonal colours. It’s only 45 minutes from Bunbury but you feel as if you’ve ventured into another country, thanks to the park’s array of international trees.
