Find the Best Walks in Collie

Find the Best Walks in Collie

Embrace the beauty of the Collie River Valley, along one of these Collie walks.

Collie has long been an outdoor adventurer’s playground, with ample spots to camp, fish, mountain bike and picnic. There’s no shortage of walking trails, either. Here are some of the best walks in Collie we hope you’ll get to enjoy (post-COVID for you non-locals).

Bibbulmun Wellington Spur Trail

Bushwalking in Wellington National Park

Part of the Bibbulmun Track, the Bibbulmun Wellington Spur Trail links the Bibbulmun Track to the Wellington Dam. There are a number of walks that you can embark on, of varying lengths and difficulties. For a day’s adventure, try walking from the Wellington Dam to the Arcadia campsite, which is a 7 kilometre round trip.

Start at the Kiosk on Wellington Dam Road, Wellington National Park

Collie Darkan Rail Trail

With more than 45km of trails to explore, there’s plenty for everyone to explore along the Collie Darkan Rail Trail. Walkers, cyclists and horse riders regularly frequent this track, which begins 20km east of Collie, passes through bush and picturesque farmlands and finishes at the old Darkan Railway Station.

Start at Buckingham, along the Coalfields Highway, Darkan

Collie River Walk

This well-marked 10km track follows the Collie River. Parking is available at the Soldiers Memorial Park, an easy starting point for your journey. This track is also great for cycling. Dogs on lead only.

Start at Fred Sharte Memorial Lions Park

Harris Dam Walk

Lover of wildflowers? Try the Harris Dam Walk, which is part of the Bibbulmun Track. This 7.4km return stroll takes in jarrah and marri forest, blanketed with flowering shrubs and orchids. If you’re new to hiking, this is the path for you! Dogs on lead only.

Start at Harris Dam

Jabitj Trail, Wellington National Park

Wellington Dam by @GeoCatchers

The Jabitj Trail, which translates to “running water”,  is a 12km return trail that follows the Collie River between Wellington Dam and Honeymoon Pool in Wellington National Park. Walkers will be rewarded with delightful views of the river’s rapids and pools as they venture through the park and along the trail.

Start at Wellington Dam Kiosk

Karak (Red Tail) Trail

The perfect trail for families, thanks to a sealed path suitable for bikes, prams and wheelchairs, the Karak Trail connects the town of Collie to Allanson via lush state forest. A beautiful walk any time of the year, spring is particularly stunning as wildflowers bloom alongside the path. Dogs on lead only.

Start at Collie Cemetery

Kurliiny Tjenangitj Trail

In need of a heart-starter walk? Starting at the idyllic Honeymoon Pool, venture along this 5km loop for views of the Collie River from a lookout. Fancy more of a challenge? Continue on and complete the almost 10km loop that will take you through the Wellington National Park and back. It’s an awesome workout.

Start at Honeymoon Pool

Wiilman Bilya Trail

Named after the traditional Noongar group Wiilman, and Bilya (river), the Wiilman Bilya Walk Trail offers a beautiful walk along Potters Gorge and Wellington Dam in the Wellington National Park. Meander through jarrah, marri and yarri (blackbutt) forests, cross a series of picturesque bridges and stop for a picnic along the way.

Start at Wellington Dam Road, Wellington National Park
