History
Ernest Charman’s Cycle and Grocery Store once stood at this site. Later, it became a Charman’s Tearooms.
Ernest was the son of pioneer settlers George and Elizabeth Charman. Originally from New Zealand, the Charmans arrived in Harvey around 1895. They first settled on land at the corner of the Avenue and Third Street, and their block was one of the first to be cleared and planted with fruit trees.
