If you’re interested in arts and crafts, stop by the Koi Kite Workshop at Queens Gardens between 11am and 1pm. For just $5, you can create your own colourful koi kite—a perfect keepsake from the festival.
As the day winds down, don’t miss the Floating Lantern Festival at Friendship Gardens, starting at 3pm and continuing until sunset. This peaceful, family-friendly event invites you to decorate your own pre-purchased floating lantern and release it among the plum blossom trees. The festival atmosphere is enhanced by acoustic music, food stalls, and even a chance to try on a kimono! Be sure to pre-purchase your lantern online, as they tend to sell out quickly. You can also buy a lantern to paint and take home with you. General entry is free, making this a beautiful way to end your day.
If you are looking for a quick dinner before or after the lantern floating, check out Paddy’s Patties in Stirling street. In addition to the best traditional burgers in town they also have a range of Japanese inspired burgers including katsu chicken and fish burgers, a Sukiyake beef burger and even a Yakiniku rice burger. You could also check out Kokoro on Victoria Street which offers a full range of Japanese specialties.
